One of the best college orchestras in the US, the Symphony Orchestra of the

Princeton University will visit Bulgaria for the first time to participate in this year's competition

"European Music Festival" in Sofia. The internationally acclaimed ensemble is composed

of over 100 students from various faculties of the renowned educational institution. On March 14

2023 at 7:30 p.m. in the "Bulgaria" hall, the young American instrumentalists will present

brilliant orchestral program with music of various styles: "Polovetsky dances" around the opera

"Prince Igor" by Borodin, "The Planets" by Gustav Holst and Ballade for Orchestra op.33 by Samuel

Coleridge-Taylor, which will sound for the first time in Bulgaria. The orchestra will perform under

the baton of its longtime conductor, maestro Michael Pratt, who leads the ensemble already

45th season. The event is organized by "Canthus Firmus" with the financial support of

The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Capital Municipality in partnership with

The Sofia Philharmonic. The Youth Choir Chapel of NMU "L.

Pipkov" in Sofia with conductor Slavil Dimitrov.

The Princeton University Orchestra was formed in 1896 by a small group

professional musicians of the New York Philharmonic Societies and into the next century

the cast members grow, creating a full symphonic ensemble. Now

the orchestra has a regular concert activity of at least eight appearances with various programs through

the academic year and other participations.

Conductor Michael Pratt is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. Through

over the years he has trained several generations of students through a remarkable variety of

orchestral and operatic literature in various styles - from early baroque opera, trans

classical and romantic symphonies, to the latest compositions created by students and

professors from the university. Pratt led the orchestra on eleven European tours and

raised the prestige of the ensemble to one of the most renowned youth orchestras in the USA. Under

joint programs with the faculties of theater and dance are also carried out under his leadership.

The conductor is the creator of one of the best music programs in the country, Princeton

certificate executive program, of which he has been director since its inception in

1991 Pratt also co-founded the Richardson Chamber Players, a chamber ensemble.

providing opportunities for top students to participate in chamber concerts, along with

the teaching staff. In March 2018, Michael Pratt was awarded honorary membership in the

The Royal College of Music in London (HonRCM), and in 2019 became the recipient of the special

Princeton University President Christopher Eisgruber Award.

Tickets for the concert are on sale from today online at, as well as at the box office of
